Turning Point
Initially Sachin Tendulkar wanted to be a fast bowler and even undertook trials at the MRF pace foundation, Chennai, but his short height proved to be an obstacle. Changing his school to Shardashram Vidya Mandir and meeting Mr. Ramakant Achrekar (who became his coach) was the turning point of Sachin's cricket career.

Early Promise
Playing for his school, Shardashram Vidya Mandir, Sachin along with his buddy Vinod Kambli set a world record partnership of 664 runs for the third wicket. There was no looking back after that. Sachin became the only player to score a century on debut in all three domestic first class competitions- 100 not out in the Ranji Trophy (Bombay v Gujarat at Bombay 1988-89), 159 in the Duleep Trophy (West Zone v East Zone at Guwahati 1990-91) and 103 not out in the Irani Trophy (Rest of India v Delhi at Bombay, 1989-90).

This was the beginning of what Sunil Gavaskar called an illustrious cricketing genius. Such was the promise and prospect of this little boy that during a local match the umpire deliberately didn't declare him out just to show the class of Sachin to one of his friends, a former cricketer.

Seeing loads of promises in his younger brother, Ajit Tendulkar (Sachin's brother) decided to guide Sachin in the early stages of his life. Ajit took his kid brother to Mr. Ramakant Achrekar, arguably the best cricket coach of his times. It was because of cricket that Sachin had to change his school and had to stay at his uncle's place.

Mr. Achrekar was thoroughly impressed by this little boy. Achrekar could see the world champion in this little boy. He was satisfied beyond doubt that Sachin had huge potential and hunger to succeed at the highest level. Slowly and gradually Sachin started making waves in the local cricket of Mumbai. And it was not long before Sachin got to play his first Ranji trophy match against Gujarat in 1988-89. Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar is born on April 24, 1973 in Mumbai, India. It was Shradashram Vidyamandir, a school in Mumbai, where he began his career with the cricket coach Ramakant Achrekar. He attended the MRF pace foundation for your school to train as a fast player, but fast Australian player Dennis Lillee, who saw the training was not very impressed and suggested that Tendulkar should concentrate on his club instead. As a child, Tendulkar practiced for hours on the network, and is driven hard by their coach Achrekar.

During his studies, his extraordinary batting skill was noticed by the sports circuit. People felt that the child will soon become one of the largest in the cricket. In the 1988 season, he scored a century in all rounds played. In one of         the things school games this year, had an unbroken 664-run partnership with his friend and team mate Vinod Kambli.

When he was 14, the Indian batting legend Sunil Gavaskar a large Indian drummer at the time, gave him a couple of his own block light. This touching gesture strongly encouraged the budding cricketer, who 20 years later broke the world record of centuries Gavaskar Test 34.

In 1988, when he was a bit 'less than 16, scored 100 not out in Bombay in Gujrat. This was his debut in first class. He made a century in his first appearance in Deodhar and Duleep Trophy. Mumbai captain Dilip Vengsarkar took it when he saw his line networks Kapil dev. That season, he was in Bombay High run-getter. In Irani Trophy final, made an unbeaten century. At a very young age of 16, Sachin played his first test match against Pakistan in Karachi in 1989. In this trial, he received several blows to his body at the hands of Waqar Younis, a pace bowler. He made only 15 runs. In the last event in Sialkot, he had a bloody nose from a bouncer, but he continued to play. He scored better in the following games, scoring 53 runs in 18 balls in Peshawar.

In 1990 he played for England in Test century at Old Trafford. England was very impressed with his maturity governed tremendous display. He played a wide range of bets. Soon after, Tendulkar developed tennis elbow and he was out of cricket for some time. But in 2005 he returned to form. He played well against Australia, Sri Lanka and Pakistan.

Tendulkar performed well against Bangladesh and was awarded man of the series in the cup to come against South Africa.

Tendulkar is now a national icon to fans worldwide. He is the most worshipped cricketer in the world. Tendulkar got Padma Vibhushan, Padma Shri Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna, Arjuna Award, Padma Vibhushan by the Indian government.

Personal Life

“In 1995, Sachin married Anjali”, a doctor and his daughter Gujarati industrialist Anand Mehta. They have two children, Sara and Arjun. Now Tendulkar sponsors 200 underprivileged children every year through the Mumbai-based NGO.
